The Food Bank

The Food Bank was established in Milton Keynes in June 2004 as a direct response to an initiative started by the Trussell Trust in Salisbury, which has been operating a similar scheme there since the year 2000.

Since opening, The Food Bank has seen a steady growth in the number of people being referred via a network of over 70 professional care agencies including Social Services, Council tenancy departments, MK Hospital, YMCA & various housing associations.  All schools and Churches in Milton Keynes can also act as referral agents.   In 2007 The Food Bank gave out 1057 food parcels, however in 2008 this number had more than doubled with 2390 parcels being issued and with the credit crunch continuing to bite, there is no sign of a the situation easing!

The Food Bank relies on donations of "in date" and in "good condition"  tinned and dried food to support this vital work.

In the last 6 months The Food Bank has increased its availability to the community by working in partnership with other Churches making the service now available 6 days per week from 4 separate locations.

Thank you for supporting The Food Bank - together we really can make a difference.
